Over time, the elements will wear at headstones and monuments making them appear uncared for, which can cause upset. Damage can also be caused by vandalism, strong weather or the age of the monument, meaning you may not be able to remember your family and friends how you wanted to. Kirkwoods Monumental Sculptors is dedicated to restoring your monument to its former glory.
We thoroughly clean the headstone with specialist cleaning products and acids, and carry out repairs where required to ensure it looks its best again.
Repair or replace?
On occasion, such as when damage or wear is too extensive to be economical to repair, of if the memorial did not meet safety standards, we may recommend a direct replacement. We can either create a direct replacement as like-for-like as possible, or we can update the design.
When it might be better to replace a monument:
- If a monument is severely damaged or broken
- If it was anchored insecurely (some councils will not allow older stones to be reinstalled if they were not anchored to current safety standards)
- If there is very little remaining text, or not enough material to restore the text
- If you require extra personalisation, or a larger memorial to facilitate this
- If it would cost far more to repair
